When the past keeps showing up in the present.
In-person in Irving and virtually throughout Texas.
You may understand that something happened to you without fully recognizing how it continues to affect your relationships, boundaries, emotions, and sense of safety.
Perhaps you shut down during conflict, become overwhelmed by rejection, struggle to trust others, or repeatedly find yourself in relationships where your needs aren’t being met.
NLW Counseling provides trauma-informed therapy for adults ready to understand these patterns, process painful experiences, and build healthier relationships with themselves and others.

You may recognize what you need to change while still feeling unable to make that shift when emotionally activated, especially in the context of your trauma and relationships. Attachment-focused therapy and internal family systems therapy can provide valuable insights into these challenges.
Trauma can also involve what was missing—safety, protection, consistency, emotional support, or the permission to be fully yourself. These elements are crucial in understanding trauma and relationships.
Painful experiences can shape your expectations from relationships, influence how you respond to conflict, and determine what your body perceives as safe or threatening. They reflect your learned responses, which are not evidence of something being wrong with you, but rather ways you adapted to protect yourself, maintain connection, or survive difficult circumstances.
Attachment-focused therapy and internal family systems therapy can help you explore these responses without judgment. These therapeutic approaches aim to help you understand whether your coping mechanisms still serve you in your current life.

Insight matters, but sometimes understanding a pattern intellectually isn’t enough to change how your mind and body respond.
NLW Counseling uses an integrative, trauma-informed approach that may include attachment-focused therapy, Internal Family Systems-informed work, DBT skills, Brainspotting, and other approaches selected according to your needs and readiness.
Trauma work isn’t rushed. Treatment may begin with developing safety, emotional regulation, and resources before moving into deeper processing.
